Asistencia Tecnológica
La Asistencia Tecnológica (AT) son aquellos equipos y servicios para aumentar, mantener o mejorar las capacidades funcionales del estudiante con impedimento. No incluye los dispositivos relacionados con la salud que se implantan quirúrgicamente. (§300.5)[1]
Tienen como fin primordial proveer al estudiante acceso al contenido curricular de forma que puedan tener un aprovechamiento académico y un progreso educativo en igualdad de oportunidades, integrado a sus acomodos razonables, modificaciones y los servicios relacionados.
Corresponde al COMPU analizar y determinar la necesidad de referir al estudiante a una evaluación en AT. En la minuta se debe constar claramente las necesidades del estudiante y especificar las necesidades observadas que no se pueden satisfacer sin un equipo de AT. Una vez establecida la necesidad, el maestro debe completar un referido y enmendar la sección VI-(K) del PEI vigente. Luego, el/la maestro(a) debe completar una Guía de Referido de Asistencia Tecnológica.
El proceso de evaluación debe llevarse a cabo en un término no mayor de 30 días. Los equipos recomendados deben ir acorde a la necesidad y metas académicas en el PEI del estudiante.
Asistencia tecnológica incluye desde la evaluación hasta la compra, alquiler de equipo asistivo; seleccionar, diseñar, adecuar, personalizar, adaptar, mantener, reparar o reemplazar equipo; coordinar y usar otro tipo de terapias, intervenciones o servicios con equipos de asistencia tecnológica y adiestrar o brindar asistencia técnica a profesionales, empleados. (§300.6)[2]
Sepa que el estudiante si puede utilizar el equipo de AT en otros ambientes que no sean el escolar. Esto es así porque el estudiante depende de estos equipos en todos los aspectos de su vida y, fuera de la escuela, el estudiante requiere continuidad en las destrezas adquiridas en el salón, así como necesita el equipo para poder adquirir destrezas en sus terapias. Ahora, eso también es una decisión que tiene que tomar el COMPU y suscribirlo claramente en una minuta.
Quien responde por daños al equipo va a depender de en qué escenario ocurriera.

[1] § 300.5 Assistive technology device.
Assistive technology device means any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of a child with a disability.
[2] § 300.6 Assistive technology service.
Assistive technology service means any service that directly assists a child with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device. The term includes -
(a) The evaluation of the needs of a child with a disability, including a functional evaluation of the child in the child's customary environment;
(b) Purchasing, leasing, or otherwise providing for the acquisition of assistive technology devices by children with disabilities;
(c) Selecting, designing, fitting, customizing, adapting, applying, maintaining, repairing, or replacing assistive technology devices;
(d) Coordinating and using other therapies, interventions, or services with assistive technology devices, such as those associated with existing education and rehabilitation plans and programs;
(e) Training or technical assistance for a child with a disability or, if appropriate, that child's family; and
(f) Training or technical assistance for professionals (including individuals providing education or rehabilitation services), employers, or other individuals who provide services to, employ, or are otherwise substantially involved in the major life functions of that child.

The subject of exploring the paths taken by graduates feels more interesting when there is room for a reader to stop and ask their own questions. A career story can show the changes and decisions that a short job title leaves out. That connection helps me see why graduate career pathways can be worth a closer look. I am more curious about the process than a polished result, because the steps in between are usually where questions appear. Which questions would make an interview with a graduate useful for current students?
I find making maths understandable through clear examples easier to think about when there is a concrete question to start from. Following one worked example slowly can reveal the reasoning behind a method. This is why I would approach mathematics learning support with a specific question rather than a fixed expectation. I am still thinking through the details, and a small example would help me picture how this works in practice. What helps a learner move from copying a solution to choosing a method independently?
The topic of finding agreement through respectful discussion gives me a few things to think about, especially when the discussion moves beyond general advice. Listening for a shared concern can make disagreement easier to work through. It gives me a more concrete starting point for thinking about consensus building skills. The part I would like to explore further is what happens when the idea meets a real situation with its own limitations. What helps a group move towards a decision while keeping different views visible?
Thinking about keeping educational competitions enjoyable, I find the smaller practical questions more interesting than a quick conclusion. A challenge can be motivating when the experience matters alongside the final result. I would use that point as a starting question when considering student learning competitions. I would probably come back to this question after trying to work through one concrete example rather than deciding immediately. How can a competition reward curiosity and persistence as well as correct answers?
There is something approachable about discussing choosing books for a varied reading collection through situations people can actually picture. A balanced collection can include familiar interests and a few titles that invite something new. It also gives the phrase book selection ideas a clearer meaning than a label on its own. The part I would like to explore further is what happens when the idea meets a real situation with its own limitations. How do you choose books for readers with very different tastes?
